Cairo
is one of the rare cities in the world that you can find many old Coptic
sites, even though it is mainly a muslim country. This shows the acceptance of
the two religions together.
We
will start our tour of Coptic Cairo by visiting The Hanging Church. (In
Arabic it is called Al-Muallaqa). This church was built in the 4th
century. It was built in dedication to the Virgin Mary and inside you
will see a wall painting of the Nativity from the 14th
century.
Our
next stop will be at the Church of St. Sergius that was built in the 5th
century. It is believed to have been built over the crypt where the Holy
Family stayed in Egypt.
Then
at the Church of St. Mercurius, you will see scenes from the Old and New
Testament.
We
will next visit the Greek orthodox Church of Mari Girgis.
On our
way back we will stop to witness one of the great wonders of the world,
the Giza Pyramids.
Before
we leave we will have lunch at a local restaurant. |
