Description of Tour

The Best of Alex tour will start off after leaving the port. You will enjoy a tour of famous sites in Alexandria.

 

The first stop will be the Alexandria National Museum. This museum was built by the famous wood merchant Asaad Basily in 1928. There are over 1,800 pieces of antiques in the museum that display the history of the people of Alexandria through artwork from all the periods of history.

 

The next stop will be the Pillar of Pompey, which is made out of red granite and is 25 meters in height, and stands between the ruins of the Serapis Temple. At this site you will also see two pink granite sphinxes

 

While visiting the Roman Amphitheatre you will see the 12 rows of marble seats that form a semicircle and used to hold up to 800 spectators. This site dates back to the 2nd century.

 

At the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa you will see the three levels of cemetery embedded into rock. Inside there are statues of Sobek and Anubis that date back to the 2nd century.

 

The Abu Al Abass Mosque is a famous landmark in Alexandria as it is the biggest mosque in the city. It has been built in an Andulsian style and is known for its four domes and minaret that can be seen from any high point around the city.

§          While inside any mosque, you should cover your shoulders and knees and remove your shoes.

§          There is an entrance fee for cameras and video cameras at the Alexandria National Museum and the Catacombs.

§          Good walking shoes and a hat are recommended.

§          Tour not suitable for people with limited walking abilities.
